چکیده

ondent-driven s were found to progress very fast. Studies with large samples can be expected to proceed up to 20 times faster than with traditional methods; in fact, to prevent bias from temporal filtering, d, because of sation should ential recruits. findings, based on theoretical and empirical evidence, indicate that web-based RDS can be much faster, easier, and cheaper than both regular RDS and standard sampling methods. Additionally, RDS estimates are compared to institutional data and potential sources of bias associated with the random recruitment assumption and sample size are discussed Abstract This study tests the feasibility, effectiveness, and efficiency of resp sampling (RDS) as a web-based sampling method. First, RDS referral chain studies with small target samples should limit hourly response rates. Secon the relative ease of the web-based RDS process for each recruit, compen remain low. High rewards appear too good to be true and may scare off pot The results also demonstrate that web-based RDS can be used with minimal staffing. Our 2

Sampling hidden populations is challenging due to the lack of convenience statistical frames. Since most populations exposed to special diseases are hidden and hard to reach, sampling methods that produce representative and efficient samples from the populations have become a study subject for researches all over the world. Because of the unknown probability of selecting samples in conventional...

Approximate Bayesian Computation Estimator for Respondent-Driven Sampling

Respondent-driven sampling is a network-based technique to collect information and make estimation about behavior and composition of social groups in hidden population. The non-randomly selected samples prohibit the use of the sample mean as a statistically valid estimator. Researchers have proposed several asymptotically unbiased estimators, but many fail to realize that the high variance of t...

A comparison of network sampling designs for a hidden population of drug users: Random walk vs. respondent-driven sampling.

Both random walk and respondent-driven sampling (RDS) exploit social networks and may reduce biases introduced by earlier methods for sampling from hidden populations. Although RDS has become much more widely used by social researchers than random walk (RW), there has been little discussion of the tradeoffs in choosing RDS over RW. This paper compares experiences of implementing RW and RDS to r...

One-step Estimation of Networked Population Size: Respondent-Driven Capture-Recapture with Anonymity

Population size estimates for hidden and hard-to-reach populations are particularly important when members are known to suffer from disproportion health issues or to pose health risks to the larger ambient population in which they are embedded. Efforts to derive size estimates are often frustrated by a range of factors that preclude conventional survey strategies, including social stigma associ...

Respondent Driven Sampling

Respondent driven sampling (RDS) is a network sampling technique typically employed for hard-to-reach populations (e.g. drug users, men who have sex with men, people with HIV). Similar to snowball sampling, initial seed respondents recruit additional respondents from their network of friends. The recruiting process repeats iteratively, thereby forming long referral chains. Unlike in snowball sa...
